Beginners Painted Furniture Techniques with Crabbitt & Co
Bring along a small item of your choice – a small side table or stool is good - and we will show you how to paint and finish this item so you can take it home ready to use!
This friendly beginners’ class will give you an insight into how to properly prep for the better, long-lasting finish. We talk through the best methods for sealing, waxing, and stain prevention and then we’ll have fun with the next step: some methods for distressing, shabby-fying, and ageing using dark wax - this can be done on a sample board if your piece is not dry or you do not wish to experiment on it!
The class will include a ‘de-mystifying’ session on painting furniture. We’ll talk through the differences between the different furniture paints on the market, what’s best to use for which purpose and the various different avenues you can go down for achieving the painted furniture look. We’ll have a chat and some experimenting with best tools, materials and methods and we’ll throw a few of our own personal hints and tips in along the way too!
One colour of paint will be provided for your use (Autentico’s ‘Bath Stone’ – a popular neutral colour) with paint brushes, rollers and materials for your use on the day
Please note: Please make sure the item you bring is clean, dry and dust free, and also pieces with lots of small surfaces rather than large flat areas (for example a chair with many spindles or a table with lots of cut-out detailing) will take much longer to paint than large flat surfaces. If you’d like to leave the class with a completed piece, please do not bring an item that is large or with too many small surfaces!
