We are delighted to welcome trained pattern cutter Elizabeth Cake to Made and Making.
Over an intensive weekend workshop you will learn how draft a dress pattern that fits you perfectly.
By accurately measuring your waist, hips, bust etc you will lean how to draft a dress block for your own shape which you will then make into a paper pattern. From this you will make a toile allowing you to check the fit and make any final adjustments. You will then be able to take home a pattern and block for a perfectly fitting dress. You may be able to begin making a dress on the second day subject to time
You will learn not only how to create the block but also how to make simple adaptations of skirt shape and dart position.
This is a beginners course so no previous pattern cutting experience is required but some of experience of dressmaking will be an advantage.
You will need to bring a packed lunch and the following;
Sewing machine (please let us know if you would prefer to use one of ours)
A calculator, some coloured pens/pencils and a rubber.
You may find a patternmaster tool helpful, some will be available on the day but if you already have your own please do bring it along.
Pattern paper and calico are also required and can be made available for you on the day at an additional £10 charge. You need approx 1.5m of both.
In preparation for starting your dress if you have time towards the end of the sessions please bring
2m of fabric of your choice
Matching thread and 22inch zip
Please wear tights to the course as it makes for the most accurate measurement taking.
We need a minimum of three people to run this course.
