Fun rag quilting - make bags or quilt - Wednesday 2nd August 10am to 3pm
A simple beginner technique
This is a fantastic fun beginners project.
In this workshop you will learn the principles of rag quilting and have the choice to use these principles to design and make your own bag(s) or make yourself a quick quilt.
The ragging technique involves the layering of 3 fabrics all of which are seen in the finished project. The middle layer can be thin cotton wadding but fleece makes a great alternative. There are lots of choices with this project as you can use charm packs of pre cut squares or cut your own, The projects can work really well using denim too.
You will need:
Either bring charm packs and thin cotton wadding/fleece to the equivalent to your desired size. The average charm pack contains 36 squares of 13cm/5". One pack will therefore make a sqaure of 78cm/30". (If you are intending to make bag I would suggest choosing one of the other options so that you have more freedom to choose the size of your squares to suit your design.)
20 fat quarters, (10 for the front and 10 for the back) and 2m of wadding which would make a finsihed size of 110cm x 165cm
Bring 3 fabrics, ideally cotton, brushed cotton or denim for the outside. Fleece or thin cotton wadding for the inside. Bring enough of each of 3 fabrics to complete the finished size of your project. If you are making the bags then I would suggest bringing 1m of each and this would make more than one bag.
Cotton to match.
The workshop is led by Sarah and open to those aged 14 and over.
