What will we cover?
During this day course we will work with precut 10″ squares to make a classic patchwork quilt. Working with everything precut means that we can spend time on the piecing, learning how to work to accurate seam allowances, match and nest seam. We look at the best ways to press your work too. These are all very important patchwork skills.
With the quilt top completed we will then consider how to best baste the layers of the quilt together. This is the stage when we add the wadding and the fabric for the back of the quilt.
Finally we will move on to quilting options and how to get the best results.
The final step in the process is to add the binding to the edge of the quilt.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught in our light and airy studio by an experienced patchwork tutor. Sarah enjoys nothing more that sharing her skills and will take you through the project step by step making sure that you understand every step and clearly explaining the choices that we are making. See some testimonials below.
Do I need any previous experience or skills?

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
All materials for this workshop are provided so that you can focus on the skills. You do not need to bring anything with you, just book, relax and turn up!

“I am doing the sampler quilt and it is just amazing. I love everything about it and will be sorry when it’s finished. Will definitely be looking to improve my skills with Made and Making. Just fantastic.”
Teresa
“I have been on the beginners course to learn some new skills . The course is really well structured with so much to learn, but broken down into manageable chunks… I will definitely keep going with this now that I have started.
The workroom is lovely with lots of inspiration all around you in the form of pieces of sewing, quilting, crochet etc… examples of some of the things you can learn. It’s a lovely place to learn so many crafts.
Sarah is a very good teacher with clear instructions and examples of what I was supposed to be doing… and with ideas to rectify any less than perfect ‘sewing ‘ from me. I have nearly finished my sample quilt and am very happy with the results. Would absolutely recommend Made and Making…it’s a great place to learn and I have already signed up for another course.”
