What will we cover?

You will start the session taking some simple measurements to ensure you make the right size and fit for you. Then you’ll learn the basics of dressmaking; looking at cutting out the pattern, laying out your fabric and making sure that you cut out accurate and correctly marked pieces.

We’ll show you how to construct and finish your garment and how to attach the cuffing/ribbing.

This really is a great beginners project.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in our light and airy inspiring studio by Mercedes, an experienced seamstress, who will be able to share all her tips and tricks with you.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

No previous dressmaking experience is required but it will be to your advantage to feel confident with a sewing machine.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

Please bring along the correct amount of fabric as per the chart below with matching thread plus ribbing of your choice.

Suggested fabrics are medium weight knits with a minimum of 15% stretch.  Suggested fabrics would be French Terry, sweatshirt fleece, sweatshirt knits and jersey. If you have a pattern such a plaids, strips or one way designs extra fabric may be needed to pattern match.

For the neck and cuff you need ribbing with 80% stretch. To measure your stretch take 10cm of ribbing and stretch. It will need to stretch to 18cm. It can be fun to have a contrast ribbing!

What will I take home with me?

You will take home your sweatshirt and the pattern plus all the knowledge that you need to make more and more and more!

Drinks and biscuits will be available but we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you.

During all of our workshops photographs are taken for promotional purposes only. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you would prefer not to be included.
