Children’s Strippy Cushion

Children's strippy cushion workshop

This workshop is a brilliant opportunity to introduce your child to a sewing machine. Sewing is a life skill and a wonderful skill to gift.

During the session we will explain how a sewing machine works, how to sew (with an emphasis on beginning, finishing and respecting your seam allowance). This is a great project for the beginner as there is lots of sewing involved! With this project we will use a wide variety of strips so you can make your cushion as individual as you like. If you want to bring along any strips from scraps at home please just make sure that they have been cut straight and are at least 3cm wide.

All you need to do is drop them off. We’ll give them a drink and a biscuit and have them waiting with a lovely cushion to take home.

Our tutor is DBS checked.

This session is open to 8 years and over.

Since my first attempt at appliqué, aged 7, my downtime has centred around stitch-crafts. Through the intricate details of hand embroidery, to the precision of dress making, the artful skills of patchwork and quilting and more recently the creative freedom of machine appliqué; I have spent a lifetime indulging my passion for creating with fabric and thread. As a science teacher I have worked with teenagers for over 25 years. I am currently completing a level 3 City and Guilds in Patchwork and Quilting and am now fortunate enough to be able to combine my abilities in teaching with my lifelong hobby. I believe that it’s the imperfections of hand-crafts that make such items unique, and the energy and thought that goes into their creation that makes them the treasured items they become. Happy stitching.
