ON TOUR @ DORSET – Crazy fun sampler

Crazy fun sampler

LOCATION : Hanson’s Fabrics & Crafts, Station Road, Sturminster Newton, Dorset, DT10 1BD

I have had the idea in my head for sometime to make an interesting sampler from a set of precut squares so that it can be a fun and affordable way to learn how to patchwork.

The crazy fun sampler is a brilliant project if you would like to learn a variety of patchwork techniques. It is totally beginner friendly and can be a fun make for a more experienced patchworker too.

We’ve made the project charm pack friendly, a charm pack being a pack of 42 5″ squares. By buying you fabric in this way you get a great variety which adds interest to your project. Plus with the the average charm pack costing around £12-£15 this becomes an incredibly affordable way to have an introduction to patchwork without making everything just too small. There is of course no reason why you can’t cut a variety of 5″ squares for yourself either.

If you fancy working on something that will be a but larger the pattern is sized to work with layer cakes too. A layer cake is a set of 42 10″ squares, again each pack will contain a large number of coordinating fabrics.

Using a variety of blocks, building skills as we go you will come away from the workshop with an insight into this addictive hobby!

The project  lends itself to personalisation as the pattern contains a variety of techniques and it is up to you which blocks you choose to make and use. Your layout can also vary as you look to spread your dominant colours throughout the finished work.
