What will we cover?

We will provide you with your own copy of the pattern, help you with the measurements, selecting and cutting out the pattern pieces and laying them out on your chosen fabric.

We will then give you all the top tips for sewing with jersey/knit fabric.

How will I be taught?

You’ll be taught in our lovely studio by a friendly and experienced tutor, through demonstration and guidance as you work.

You’ll also be able to ask questions, making sure everything is clear and that you’re getting the best results you can.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

This workshop is suitable for confident beginners.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

You will need a medium weight knit (jersey) fabric with very little stretch. Too much stretch will mean it is harder to cut and sew so check that the feel of the fabric is not too fine or too stretchy. Please see below for fabric requirements and other things you need to bring.

For dress with funnel neck and cuffs:

  • 2.3m x 150cm or 3m x 115cm fabric

For plain dress:

  • 2m x 150cm or 2.7m x 115cm fabric

For top with funnel neck and cuffs:

  • 1.8m x 150cm 0r 2.7m x 115cm

For plain top:

  • 1.5m x 150cm or 2.2m x 115cm
  • Matching thread,
  • ribbon or stay tape (30cm x 6-8mm wide),
  • Stretch or ballpoint sewing needle,
  • Walking foot

What will I take home with me?

Your own new Coco dress or top!

Drinks and biscuits will be available but we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you.

During all of our workshops photographs are taken for promotional purposes only. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you would prefer not to be included.

Having trained and worked as an accountant, Vanessa only took up sewing once her two daughters started school. She found real joy in creating things for others. As well as dressmaking, she loves patchwork and making things for the home. (Her husband thinks there are more than enough cushions already!) Vanessa is also becoming competent at crochet, thanks to Made and Making's Sarah Brangwyn. It's a hobby that she finds far easier to take on holiday than a sewing machine!
