Every Adventure Tote Bag
This is a fabulous pattern for a useful tote bag. The recessed zip addition makes this feel a more secure bag. It can be adapted in many ways and once you have made one you will want to make more! You can make this from patchwork pieces and make use of mix and match fabrics. For your first one I would suggest using 100% cotton for ease. After the first one, you can feel more confident trying this with other fabrics. A great sized bag that you will love once completed.
What will we cover?
In this workshop you will learn how to apply interfacing, bag construction techniques including making handles and how to insert a zip.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?
This project is suitable for bag making beginners but you do need to be able to use a sewing machine.
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
Please bring the following already cut out before the workshop:
- For exterior main fabric – 2 pieces 8.5 inches x 19.25 inches
- For exterior base fabric – 1 piece 15 inches x 19.25 inches
- For the handles – 2 pieces 5 inches x 29 inches (for long handles, if you prefer shorter ones cut 2 pieces of 5 inches x 25 inches)
- For the lining – 1 piece of 19 inches x 29.75 inches
- If you want to add pockets then you also need a piece of lining fabric cut to be 7 inches by 10 inches – if you want two of these then two pieces that size.
- Fusible Foam – 1 piece 19.25 inches x 30 inches and 2 pieces 1.25 inches x 29 inches
- Recessed zipper pieces – 2 pieces 7 inches x 19.25 inches this can be from main or lining fabric
- Zipper tab – 1 piece of main exterior fabric 2.5 inch square
- Matching thread
- Polyester/nylon zipper length minimum 18 inches (longer is fine as it will be cut down)
You can bring your own sewing machine or you are welcome to use one of ours. If you have a walking foot this can be helpful.
