Become part of a needlework tradition that stretches back over 1,000 years. This one-day course is a fascinating introduction to goldwork embroidery. Typically used to add lustre and opulence to ecclesiastical, military and royal costume, goldwork can add fabulous highlights to dressmaking and soft furnishing projects, whether contemporary or traditional in style.
What will we cover?
On this goldwork embroidery course, you’ll learn stitches including:
- cutwork loops
- and pearl purl edges.
Goldwork embroidery in fact covers a variety of metal threads, and we’ll work in red, gold, pink and blue. You’ll finish off your design with 3D silk purl leaves in the blue of the original print. Once complete the embroidery can be cut out, backed and made into a decorative hanging or brooch measuring approximately 3.5×5.5cm.
How will I be taught?
You’ll be taught in our lovely studio by a friendly and experienced tutor, through demonstration and guidance as you work.
You’ll also be able to ask questions, making sure everything is clear and that you’re getting the best results you can.
Do I need any previous experience or skills?
Prior embroidery experience is not required as the tutor will show you all you need to know.
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
All materials are provided within the cost of the course. (RRP for the full kit is £25.)
What will I take home with me?
You’ll leave with your own embroidered piece of this famous pattern.
You’ll also take home instructions for how it can be cut out, backed and made into a decorative hanging or brooch measuring approximately 3.5 x 5.5cm.
Drinks and biscuits will be available but we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you.
During all of our workshops photographs are taken for promotional purposes only. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you would prefer not to be included.
