Improv Sampler Quilt – new course starts September 2022
Are you a seasoned quilter who would like to get out of your comfort zone and try something a bit different? Or are you a beginner? Then this course in improv quilting will suit you. Learn and experiment with exciting improv techniques, then combine them to create an amazing improv quilt sampler.
You will learn free cutting techniques – no rulers here! No worries about having to sew exact quarter inch seams or match up points. There is a freedom and joy in creating improv quilts.
You will learn strip piecing and how to create different patterns with your strips, improv triangles three ways, wonky crosses, and quarter circle blocks. We’ll look at different approaches to joining them all up to make a quilt top, and explore the possibilities of hand and machine quilting.
Suitable for beginners and anyone interested in trying some improv techniques!
What you will need
- 7 fat quarters of 100% cotton coordinating fabrics – a mixture of dark, medium and light tones/ contrasting colours and/or patterns all work well. Anything goes in improv! If you want to use up large scraps, you can bring those along too.
- Backing fabric (for the back of the quilt) and cotton wadding are also required but won’t be needed until later in the course
- Thread(cotton or polyester)
