Introduction to Tapestry Weaving
Learn how to weave home decorations by exploring different colours, yarns and textures. This class is ideal for beginners who are interested in learning the basics of weaving. Hand weaving is a meditative art that allows you to unwind while creating something beautiful.
What will we cover?
Lucy will go through all the tools and materials you will need to create your weaving on a lap loom. You will learn how to warp up a loom and some basic weaving techniques – for example tassels and tabby weave. If you are feeling adventurous we will then cover soumak and loops. Lucy loves to weave with texture so there will be plenty of that. Finally, you will learn how to take your weave off your loom and to hang on a dowel.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught by Lucy in person, she will be weaving alongside you and will help with any tricky weaving questions you may have.
Do I need any previous experience or skills?
No, none at all! This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Lucy will teach you all you need to know.
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
All materials will be provided but if you have a specific colour palette or theme in mind please do bring any chunky wool you have available.
What will I take home with me?
You will work on a small size weave, allowing you to learn and practice the skills so that you can go home and create more beautiful hangings to adorn your walls inspired by Lucy!

Tutor
Lucy is a textile designer and maker specialising in weaving and punch needle. She has been featured in many publications including Mollie Makes and Elle Decoration. She is the author of 3 craft books and you can often find her hosting workshops in the South of England passing on her textile skills.
