If you are looking to for a fun day out come and make a quilt top! You’ll get a day of relaxing sewing.
If you’ve not done patchwork before it’s beginner friendly and you can learn some fundamental skills in patchwork and quilting. You will spend a day working with precut pieces so that you can focus on the piecing and quilting, not all the fussy cutting.
Alternatively if you are already a keen patchwork fan but fancy a nice day out, working on a simple project with a group of friendly like minded people maybe you should book too! There’s nothing more relaxing than spending a day sewing in a beautiful space with a friendly bunch of people.
This is a jelly roll project and we will supply this super one from Makower fabrics. It’s keeping it easy, you can even follow our exact colour choices or mix it up yourself. You just need to book, relax and turn up!
During the class we will also discuss ways that you could add a border to the quilt to make it bigger and how to go about choosing a fabric and colours if you want to do this.

What will we cover?
During this day course we will work with precut 2.5″ strips to make a classic patchwork quilt. Working with everything precut means that we can spend time on the piecing, learning how to work to accurate seam allowances, match and nest seam. We look at the best ways to press your work too. These are all very important patchwork skills.
We will discuss how to add a border should you wish to make your quilt bigger and also talk about the quilting process and how to attach the binding.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught in our light and airy studio by an experienced patchwork tutor. Sarah enjoys nothing more that sharing her skills and will take you through the project step by step making sure that you understand every step and clearly explaining the choices that we are making. Do I need any previous experience or skills?
It is helpful if you are confident using a sewing machine if you want to get the most out of the session.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
We will provide a Makower jelly roll (RRP £45). Should you wish you can bring along a neutral colour thread, but various threads will be available in the studio. so you can just book, relax and turn up!
What will I take home with me?
You will take home a classic patchwork quilt top and knowledge of the techniques that you have used so that you could make another one and another one!

Drinks and biscuits will be available but we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you.

Tutor
Owner of Made and Making, Sarah has been sewing all her life. Her passion is helping others to gain the same level of enjoyment from mastering these creative skills. She's known for her infectious enthusiasm, her endless knowledge and for her knack for explaining things clearly, leading to lots of 'aha!' moments. You may have seen her share some of those on the TV channel Sewing Street. In a previous life, Sarah was a branch manager in an insurance firm. Taking redundancy in 2012 allowed her to follow her dream of creating a hub for sewing and craft. At Made and Making Sarah teaches sewing, crochet, needle felting and other craft courses. She's also one of the tutors for the children's workshops. When family life allows, Sarah loves nothing more than immersing herself in her own projects.
