Kinusaiga
It’s all the craze, have you heard about it? Come and spend the morning with us and learn the Japanese craft of Kinusaiga, in this new half day workshop. Kinusaiga is a Japanese textile art form created in the 1980s. Sometimes referred to as “Quilting without thread”, pictures are created by tucking fabric scraps into grooves on a board- no sewing involved!
What will we cover?
Tutor Jane will guide you to create your own design, or you can use a ready made design if you prefer. You’ll then learn how to transfer your design to the board and cut your fabrics, before adding the fabrics to the board.

In our light and airy studio by a friendly and welcoming tutor
Do I need any previous experience or skills?
Suitable for both complete beginners and seasoned crafters wanting to try something new.
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
All materials and tools will be provided including a 15cm square frame. Kinusaiga is a great craft for using up your scraps of cotton or silk fabrics so if you would like to bring your own, please do. If you have a pair of sharp embroidery scissors, they would also be useful.
What will I take home with me?
By the end of the workshop you’ll have a unique piece of textile art to take home, and the knowledge and skills to make more in your own time.

Tutor
Jane is a lifelong crafter. Among other things, she’s tried her hand at stained glass, jewellery making, woodwork and is an enthusiastic crocheter. She has always enjoyed sewing since she was a child but about 10 years ago she found a passion for patchwork and quilting. Jane has completed a City & Guilds Certificate and then a Diploma in Design and craft and was nominated for a C& G Award for her Art Quilts. Some of Jane’s work is inspired by her previous career as a midwife. As well as Art Quilting Jane enjoys the creative freedom and process of making improv quilts. She discovered the joy of improv while making a quilt for her Mum’s birthday, and now she’s hooked! Jane lives in Brighton with her husband, youngest daughter and lots of animals including a Shih Tzu called Freddie, and a lovely little flock of Bantam Hens.
