Knickers workshop

It’s just pants!  There’s nothing worse than a badly fitting, uncomfortable pair of knickers, so why not make this a thing of the past and join us for the day and learn how to make your own knickers that fit!

The basic full cover knickers pattern will be provided, but you can customise through opting to make either full, midi or hipster knickers with or without a lace top, lace inserts etc…..

How will I be taught?

You will develop your sewing skills and learn how to work with stretch fabrics including stretch lace and lingerie elastic to make your own pretty and/or practical knickers.  And for those of you who like to recycle/upcycle, you can even utilise old t-shirts and give them a new lease of life!

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

This is ideal for sewists who are confident in using a sewing machine, cutting out fabric, basic sewing principles and able to follow a pattern.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

Please bring:

– 0.5m stretch jersey, with/without lycra. Lightweight, t-shirt jersey is best.  Alternatively, if you are into recycling, you can reuse an old t-shirt – just make sure it’s a large one!

– 1.5m stretch galloon lace or stretch lace trim have a decent selection

Galloon lace has a finished, contoured edge on both edges and comes in various widths and designs. Optimum widths of lace for knickers are up to 10cm wide. NOTE: there will be some lengths of stretch lace available in the workshop if needed for a small donation.

– 5m knicker elastic. This is usually 5mm wide, with or without a picot (fancy) edge.

matching/contasting thread

If you have the following tools & equipment please bring them with you:

Tape measure
Paper scissors
Fabric scissors
Small snips / sharp pointed scissors
Fine glass head pins
Ball point / stretch sewing machine needles
Fabric marker
Sewing machine

What will I take home with me?

You will take home a pair of hand-made knickers and the pattern to be able to make some more!

Drinks and biscuits will be available
