Mono Printing with Free-motion Embroidery
Learn to mono print with real plants and flowers and then add free motion embroidery, adding depth and texture to your picture. You will create your own original piece of textile art through printing and embroidery techniques.
You will start with an introduction and demonstration from Ellie who will show how to use the fabric paints and to mono print using plants, flowers and leaves. You can also bring in your own selections of plants to mono print with, otherwise Ellie will have a selection you can use in the class.
The second half of the class will be looking at adding more detail to your print by adding free motion embroidery. While the paint is drying we will look at this technique. Ellie will demonstrate how it works and how it can add detail to your painting and you will then work on your design. After having a practice with free motion embroidery, you will then add your design to your print. You will finish with a 25cm x 30cm original mono print picture with free motion embroidery.
Ellie is a local textile artist who makes original fabric paintings with added free motion embroidery. Some of her work will be shown as examples and she will assist and demonstrate each stage of the process.
The fabric and paints will be provided in the class but if you would like to bring any images you would like to use as inspiration for the embroidery please do so, this could be wild plants, seed heads or pictures from your garden. Otherwise you can use Ellie’s images to help you.
This workshop is all about having fun and being expressive through the medium of textiles and creating you own piece of original art.
This workshop is being led by Ellie
