Oriana Quilt top

Oriana close up

We have been wanting to add a colourful contemporary design to our workshop list for a while. I spotted this and it just fits the bill. This wonderful quilt top is enchanting to look at and easier to make that it might look at first sight. We’ll show you how. The Oriana quilt top is designed by Alison Glass and a copy of her pattern its included in the price for each student.

At first sight choosing the colours may be making you wince. Don’t worry. We are making it easier for you by offering a fat quarter bundle, in all the colours that we used. I know how daunting it can be trying to  spend hours curating your own. Of course you are very welcome to do that if you enjoy the challenge or want to bust a stash that you have at home. To view the fat quarter bundle click here.

By the end of the session you will have progress towards your quilt top. Plus you will  have all the knowledge to finish it off at home.

See our accompanying curated bundle.

What will we cover?

During the course of the workshop we will walk you through choosing your coloured panels. Then curating the stripy circles. The quilt top is all machine pieced so we will be working with a 1/4″ presser foot – do bring one for your machine if you have one.

We’ll show you how to make and use templates. Then it will be tips and tricks for the best way to sew curves. You don’t need to be daunted by curves, so many people are. You just need to know the best way to approach them and treat them with a little respect by going a little but slower!

How will I be taught?

You’ll be taught in our lovely studio by a friendly and experienced tutor, through demonstration and guidance as you work.

You’ll also be able to ask questions, making sure everything is clear and that you’re getting the best results you can.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

Suitable for a competent beginner.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

You will need a selection of 22 fat quarters. You can bring your own or you can buy our curated bundle. Please also bring coordinating thread.

You will also need to bring your sewing machine and a. 1/4″ presser foot.

What will I take home with me?

By the end of the session you will have progress towards your quilt top. Plus you will  have all the knowledge to finish it off at home.

Drinks and biscuits will be available but we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you.

During all of our workshops photographs are taken for promotional purposes only. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you would prefer not to be included.
