Pole Twist Patchwork table runner
Come along and make a fabulous festive table runner from simple patchwork shapes. A lovely centrepiece for the Christmas table, you could also make this design to suit any season and it makes a thoughtful gift for family and friends too. You could also make co-ordinating placemats using a couple of the sections. These are fun to make and totally addictive!
What will we cover?
This session is a great way to develop and extend your patchwork and quilting skills all in one project. Combining simple half square triangles in a clever colour combination you can make the twisted pole table runner. This project offers piecing, quilting and binding in one manageable project.
How will I be taught?
In our light and airy studio by our friendly, experienced tutor. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and everyone can work at their own pace.
Do I need any previous experience or skills?
This workshop is suitable for patchwork beginners but is is assumed that you know how to use a sewing machine
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
The fabric colours and designs are up to you. Bear in mind when choosing fabrics that contrasting colours will make the design stand out. This is not the time for large prints or directional fabrics!
You will need:
1/2 metre for ‘pole’ (green in main pic)
1 fat quarter for background (cream in main pic)
1 metre for twist and border (red in main pic)
Backing fabric 25″ x 50″ (this can be pieced if necessary)
Wadding 28″ x 54″
1/4 metre for binding (we need 130″ x 2 1/4″)
If you are confident with rotary cutting you may wish to come with everything pre-cut. If so here are the cutting instructions:
Green: five 5″ squares, and for inner border two pieces 40.5″ x 1.5″ and two pieces 14.5″ x 1.5″
Cream: ten 5″ squares
Red: Fifteen 5″ squares, and for outer border two pieces 42.5″ x 3″ and two pieces 19.5″ x 3″
What will I take home with me?
You should be well on the way to making your table runner and will have the skills and pattern to be able to finish it off at home if necessary.
