What will we cover?

Using the right tools for your sewing project is what makes the difference between a good finish and a fabulous finish.  Join us to have all your questions answered and take your sewing machine skills to the next level.

You’ll learn when, why and how to use a variety of presser feet, including:

  • button sewing foot
  • blind hem foot
  • roller hem foot
  • overcast foot
  • gathering foot
  • bias binding foot
  • fringing foot
  • cording foot
  • and beading foot.

You’ll get to try them out on lots of samples and we’ll show you how to select the correct machine settings for each one.

Please note that our feet are standard snap-on presser feet – they may not fit older style or Bernina machines.

How will I be taught?

You’ll be taught in our lovely studio by a friendly and experienced tutor, through demonstration and guidance as you work.

You’ll also be able to ask questions, making sure everything is clear and that you’re getting the best results you can.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

Our presser foot sewing class is aimed at those who can use a machine and would now like to understand how to get the best from the large variety of presser feet available.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

Bring along your own machine (if you have one) and any additional presser feet you have – we can help you understand which are which.

A wide selection of presser feet are supplied for you to explore.

You’ll take home the samples you worked on during the course and a set of detailed instruction sheets that you can refer back to at home.

Vanessa Cordell

Having trained and worked as an accountant, Vanessa only took up sewing once her two daughters started school. She found real joy in creating things for others. As well as dressmaking, she loves patchwork and making things for the home. (Her husband thinks there are more than enough cushions already!) Vanessa is also becoming competent at crochet, thanks to Made and Making's Sarah Brangwyn. It's a hobby that she finds far easier to take on holiday than a sewing machine!
