Quilting with Parrs free motion rulers

parrs yellow

We are very excited to be able to run this workshop with the wonderful folk from Parrs free motion rulers. If you have ever wondered, or tried, how to quilt with quilting rulers this is your ideal opportunity to learn from the experts.

Please note that we are running these sessions as a limited edition with a choice of two session times on the same day.

Quilting with rulers can take away the hassle of having to mark out your quilt and give you stunning results. They can give you consistent shapes and designs by guiding your quilting. The process works by using a ruler to guide your foot along your fabric, either around the outside of the ruler or using a channel within the ruler.

What will we cover?

During the course of this exciting session Shirley from Parrs free motion rulers will show you how to set your machine up for quilting with rulers. When booking you will be asked to supply the MAKE & MODEL of your sewing machine so that they can have a freemotion ruler foot available for your machine. Failure to accurately supply this information will mean the necessary presser foot is not available.

With your machine set up you will then be introduced to the concept of quilting with rulers starting first with a basic design and building on this to develop more complete designs from one ruler and then explore other rulers.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in person by Shirley from Parrs freemotion rulers. Shirley and her husband run the company and have designed the rulers. She is an absolute expert and knows all the of the pitfalls that a beginner may make. She will take you through the techniques used and give you plenty of time to practice with support.

The workshop will take place in our light and airy studio.

Do I need any previous experience or skills?

This workshops is aimed at absolute beginners and Shirley will show you all you need to know to get started without any previous experience.

Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?

You need to bring your own machine and notify us when booking of the MAKE AND MODEL of your sewing machine so that we can ensure we have the correct free emotion ruler pressure foot attachment ready for you on the day. Failure to supply this information will mean that that you may not be able to complete the workshop.

Please bring with you a selection of quilt sandwiches that you can practise your quilting on. We would suggest that these be no bigger than 20″ square and perhaps you have a variety of sizes as designs will vary. This can be a great way to use up your wadding scraps (don’t forget you jan join scraps together with either a zig zag stitch of wadding tape) and older fabrics or be old sheeting etc.

We would ask that you do not bring large uncut yardage as there may not be space on the day to cut it down.

What will I take home with me?

You will take home with you a lot of knowledge about how to use and get the best from quilting rulers.

There will be the opportunity to purchase the correct presser foot for your machine and also choose from a selection of rulers if you get hooked!

Drinks and biscuits will be available.

During all of our workshops photographs are taken for promotional purposes only. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you would prefer not to be included.
