Raffia Lampshade

raffia lampshade workshop

Do you have a perfectly lovely small lamp at home that would like a raffia facelift?  Perhaps you just love the look of raffia in your home as an interiors material – why not, what’s not to love?  Now is your chance to create your own bespoke raffia lampshade. Choose from a variety of styles, see below for inspiration. If you like to up-cycle, this is the workshop for you.  Why not buy a lampshade bargain from a charity shop and give it a raffia make over?

In this workshop you will have the chance to experience the joy of working with raffia, learn new techniques and different styles and take home a lamp that perhaps was even made in 1993 but has just enjoyed a lovely raffia face-lift.  All raffia is supplied,  if you have a small table lamp with a shade at home then please bring along.  Otherwise there will be a small lampshade available for students to purchase and work on – please note that this may be a charity shop purchase.

Tutor

Claire Richards

Claire has been working with raffia since 1993 when a visiting Australian was teaching raffia hat making. She plaited her way through most of the 90s, selling her hats and running workshops, and is the author of 'Raffia' by the Crowood press. Since taking a break to bring up her son, Claire has extended her range of bags and now only uses natural dyeing methods. Her courses at Made and Making are relaxed, enjoyable and fun. Claire remains life-long friends with her Australian teacher. They recently holidayed together in Copenhagen....Claire forgot to take a hat!
