Sauna hat
Do you love a sauna? Then you need a sauna hat! The insulating properties of wool are used in these traditional sauna hats to protect against overheating. Worn inside the sauna the sauna hat is designed to keep your head cool as you sit there and may prevent feelings of dizziness and nausea.
Make your own felted hat in this fun workshop
What will we cover?
You will learn the process of wet felting and how to form the hat. Wet felting can be quite a physical process and involves rubbing and rolling the wool to create your perfect fit sauna hat.
How will I be taught?
You’ll be taught in our lovely studio by a friendly and experienced tutor, through demonstration and guidance as you work.
You’ll also be able to ask questions, making sure everything is clear and that you’re getting the best results you can.
Do I need any previous experience or skills?
Suitable for beginners but be prepared for a physical workout rubbing and rolling the wool to create your perfect fit sauna hat!
Are materials provided? Is there anything I need to source myself?
You’ll need to bring an old large towel and an apron. All other materials and felting wool are included. There will be a selection of colours to choose from.
What will I take home with me?
You’ll leave with your own sauna hat

Tutor
Suzy is an accomplished and experienced felt maker. She uses both wet and needle felting techniques to produce accessories, toys, jewellery and ornaments, and thoroughly enjoys sharing the possibilities that felt making has to offer. She is also a keen sewer, and produces her own jewellery designs. Suzy has been a schoolteacher since 1997, and has been a subject leader for craft, design and technology. She currently combines her long-standing interest in crafts with part-time teaching and a busy family life in Hassocks.
