Textile Art 2-day course with Ellie Hipkin

2 day textile art course

Join local artist Ellie Hipkin in a playful two day workshop exploring textile mixed media techniques to produce a stunning abstract artwork.

Day 1: This will be a playful day spent exploring and experimenting. You’ll learn how to apply textile paints directly onto natural fabrics, create textual marks and use real plants and objects to create a range of monoprinting effects. Creating a painted textural abstract background with stunning natural imprints with plants and objects.

Day 2: The second day is all about adding free motion embroidery. First building your confidence on practice pieces, you’ll then add texture and movement to your artwork through free motion embroidery. You may also choose to add appliqué and hand embroidery. We will end the course by viewing all the finished pieces, with tips for framing your work.

Ellie Hipkin

Ellie Hipkin

Ellie fell in love with textile art at school and was drawn back to it after 15 years studying and working in fashion design. Inspired by the calming power of nature on the South Downs and the Sussex coastline, Ellie paints directly onto raw canvas, cottons and silks. She uses natural finds gathered on family walks - such as grasses, seed heads and feathers - to add monoprinting effects, then uses free motion embroidery to add a final layer of texture and detail. Ellie loves sharing these skills in her textile art courses. She sells her own artwork through www.elliehipkinart.com and runs Flourish Textile Art hub at www.flourish-hub.com.
